Job Description

Distribution Pharmacy Technician Team Leader

Coordinates the inbound and outbound DEA controlled substance operation of a fast paced Distribution Center to ensure all receiving, storing, handling, distribution of controlled substance, and administrative tasks are met according to DEA Regulations. Continually seeks feedback and works to improve processes to ensure the customers' expectations are exceeded every day.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures all Controlled Substance (CS) orders are accurate, complete and compliant to all federal and state laws. Communicates effectively with both internal and external customers to resolve order issues.
  • Leads, develops and motivates the CS Team in all aspects of handling and processing controlled substance products and customer orders, ensuring that they comply with all federal and state regulations.
  • Monitors performance of team members and provides feedback to management. Recognizes training needs and implements training to ensure team is prepared. Ensures management is aware, on a regular basis, of all aspects of team member performance.
  • Adheres to and manages all Covetrus processes and systems that will help build cross-functional teams to support controlled substance sales and ensure that the right product is received, picked, packaged and shipped.
  • Maintains compliant records for all controlled substance activity to ensure they are readily retrievable for all inspections.
  • Makes certain that all CS orders received from suppliers/vendors are accurate, complete, and that paperwork is compliant. Follows up with the Regulatory and Procurement teams when information is inadequate and/or shipment not complete.
  • Fills customer orders by using radio frequency devices to pull product. Works with Regulatory Affairs to ensure that procedures and policies are followed and that security of all controlled substance products are maintained.
  • Makes decisions, works independently, and prioritizes work based upon the business and customer needs.
  • Remains current on all regulatory training and policy changes to maintain a general understanding of DEA, FDA, EPA, OSHA, DOT and GMP regulations that affect the processing of CS products and orders.
  • Leads and assists in DEA, BOP and other regulatory inspections regarding CS.
  • Provides daily status updates to DC manager to review prior days performance and to develop an action plan for the current day.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as required.
