Position: Civil Engineer, Mid-level - Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)

Function: Civil Engineering

Location: Central Service Areas

Salary Range: $90k- $130k

Remote Work Option: Yes, with occasional on-site duties.

Job Summary

This position will provide experienced Civil Engineering support to Technical Operations within the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Years of Relevant Experience

The position requires 7+ years of relevant experience providing civil engineering support, specific experience within the FAA or FAA Technical Operations is desired and preferred.

Essential Job Functions

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from this position if the work is similar, related, and/or a logical assignment for this position. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Create required plans, drawings and specifications using computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software

* Develop civil/site design drawings, calculations, cost estimates, reports, and specifications, for civil works projects consisting of buildings, equipment sheleters, communication centers, site layout, utilities, pavement, erosion control and grading.

* Conduct and/or directs site investigations of project sites, new and existing, to determine feasibility of proposed project or cause/solution to site problem

* Resolve specific civil/site design or construction problems with customers (Installations, field construction, etc.)

* Conceptualize, Design/develop Civil and Structural requirements of new facilities as well as restoration and modernization of existing facilities. Capable of preparing Civil and Structural specifications, preparing scope of work and cost estimates.

* Direct the survey and Investigation at the projects site to determine condition of facilities and to secure necessary data prior to initiation of design.

* Evaluates engineering plans and design objectives including conducting surveys and investigations to establish the necessary data to initiate engineering designs.

* Reviews designs for constructability, drafting specifications, determining and evaluating construction sequencing, researching and preparing appropriate levels of cost estimates, such as Independent Government Cost Estimates (IGCE) and contract correspondence including responses to submittals and Request for Information (RFI), and reviewing and evaluating third party cost estimates through all phases of the planning and final design process.

* Plan and monitor small to large scale facilities engineering projects to assure compliance with applicable objectives, standards and requirements

* Review contractor/manufacturer shop drawings and equipment submittals to evaluate the adequacy and practicability of the system design in conformance with contract requirements

* Assess construction projects for quality assurance to assure compliance with contract documents and appropriate building codes.

* Negotiate contract modifications.

* Review construction contracts to assure compliance with laws and regulations.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree required, candidates with degrees in Civil Engineering &/or other related engineering fields are preferred.

Master's degree is a plus and may count as additional years of experience

Skills Requirements

* Must be willing to work in a fast-paced work environment and be flexible to work on more than one program.

* Engineer with minimum 4-6 years of directly applicable civil-site design experience

* Experience with Hydraflow, ICPR, and various other hydrologic and hydraulic modeling & design programs

* Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat, and other general software tools

* Strong analytical and technical writing skills

* Receive assignments in the form of objectives and establish goals to meet objectives

* Exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results

* Interact with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations

* Inspect construction site to monitor progress and ensure conformance to engineering specifications

Security Requirements

Must be a US citizen or a legal resident for three of the past five years. Must meet eligibility requirements for a US Public Trust security clearance.

Travel

Occasional travel required as needed by client/s and/or company
